Who Does PPR Apply to?

Whatever your job is on board, in the commercial world you are a professional seafarer. As such, you are no different from the captain of a cruise liner – you have a duty of care to the crew, passengers, and other water users, and you will be held accountable if things go wrong. Boatability offer the Professional Boat Practices & Responsibilities training and the test is online.

The PPR Consists of four modules:

ONE

Commercial Environment

Showing how you fit into the professional maritime world.

TWO

People

Explaining the importance of correct manning, keeping your skills up to date and the safe management of commercial vessels.

THREE

Vessel

Teaching about the compulsory carriage and maintenance of safety equipment and how to create and implement risk control and operating procedures.

FOUR

Purpose

Making sure your vessel is suitable for the work you are doing, your obligations in protecting the environment, appropriate planning and situational awareness.

How to sign up?

To sign up for this course you simply need to contact us here at Boatability where we will sign you up for the course (currently £45 incl VAT). Once the funds have cleared we can then issue you with your user name and password so you can get started.
Payment can be via online banking, Visa Debit (not credit cards), cheque or cash if calling in. Once funds have cleared we will send you your user name and password; then simply click on the link above or click here  and enter your that information into the boxes accordingly.

The Welcome / Start Screen

The first time you log into the program it should open up with the edit profile screen. Please check the information we have entered is correct and amend as necessary. You are you are now ready to start the course - Make sure you Read the information and attempt the Mock Assessments before attempting the course!

Depending on numbers interested we may also be offering evening training classes at either Old Portsmouth or Port Solent.

Mock and Real Assessment

Once you have completed the Professional Boat Practices & Responsibilities PPR learning modules there is a mock assessment so you can check you are ready before moving onto the final graded and timed online assessment. We estimate users will take around 6 to 8 hours to work through the four course modules. The graded end of course assessment is split into two sections, totalling 2 ½ hours. You can take this course anytime prior to your Commercial Endorsement application or renewal.

When you pass, you simply download and print your PPR certificate which will be valid either for your first Commercial Endorsement application or your next renewal.

Exemptions from this course:
If you hold an MCA Deck Officer's Certificate of Competence as Officer of the Watch, Master 200, Master 500 or above you do not need to take the PPR course. Please send a copy of your MCA certificate with your application for your commercial endorsement.
