We have one or two positions available for apprentices too but the competition for these places is high but do get in an application if you are keen to develop a career in the marine industry.

RYA Powerboat Level 2

RYA Powerboat Level 2 is the introductory level to power boating, which aims to provide a practical solution to boat handling and safety in powerboats. The perfect solution for anyone not too confident in their own powerboat abilities, or youngsters who may be too young to undertake the level 2, allowing anyone to experience the joys of power boating as well as attaining a Royal Yachting Association Certification.

RYA Powerboat Level 2 TrainingThis course can be conducted in a variety of boats, planing or displacement. The certificate will be endorsed to show the type of boat(s) in which the training took place. The syllabus is split between classroom theory and water-based practical tuition, covering the following topics: Personal and boat preparation Launching and returning to shore Safety Equipment Pre-Start Checks Personal Buoyancy Basic boat controls Starting & Stopping Use of Kill Cord Steering Controls Leaving & Coming Alongside Rope work Theory of towing Local byelaws and insurance Crewing and routines Awareness of other water users Basic close down procedures.

You will also get plenty of hands-on driving as we tutor you through skills such as: Planing at speed Picking up a mooring Coming alongside ‘Rule of the Road’ - International Regulations for Prevention of Collisions at Sea (IRPCS) Duration: 1 day Minimum Age: 8 Certification: RYA G20 powerboat logbook and Level 1 certificate. Course fee is inclusive of certification, use of safety equipment, and boats; however the course can be run from you location, using your own boat depending on type and suitability.

RYA Level 2 National Powerboat Course This course is an ideal platform for anyone who is serious about boating and wants to get it right. Regardless if you own a RIB, Displacement Craft, Cruiser or Yacht, this course will provide you with the knowledge and fundamentals necessary to operate a vessel that uses power. How many times have you witnessed, been involved with or on and around a vessel that struggled to get alongside or onto its berth, let alone experienced the blood rush and sweaty brow due to the close scrapes when confronted with a confined space? The Aim of the course is to teach boat handling and seamanship in powerboats.

The course can be conducted in a variety of boat types, both planing and displacement and the certificate issued will be endorsed to show the types of boat(s) in which the training took place.

Weather forecasts

‘Rules of the Road’ - International Regulations for Prevention of Collisions at Sea (IRPCS)

Buoyage System - The International Association of Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) Basic Navigation & Pilotage Towing Lights, sounds and shapes

Basic seamanship: Knots. Tying up to a cleat Securing a boat alongside

Boat handling: Slow speed manoeuvres High speed manoeuvres, Berthing, Coming alongside, Confined space manoeuvres

This course is assessed which means an individual can be awarded the International Certificate of Competence (ICC) on successful completion of their assessment.

Duration: 2 day

Minimum Age: 12 Certification: RYA G20 powerboat log book and Level 2 Certificate.

Note: The ICC can also be attained via the RYA for a small fee for administration (free to RYA members). Course fee is inclusive of certification, use of safety equipment, and boats; however the course can also be run from you location using your own boat, depending on type and suitability:
